Hansa Poker Player Wins Maui Jackpot
04/24/2007
Hansa Poker is delighted to announce that one of our players has won five Maui Jackpot Sit-n-Go’s in a row and took home a whopping $50,000 USD.
The Maui Jackpot starts at $15,000 and grows by $3,500 every week until there is a winner (also known as the “progressive amount”). When the winner (Screen name AMFAR222) won his fifth Sit-n-Go in a row, earning him the Jackpot + the progressive amount, he initially thought that he had won $18,500 ($15,000 jackpot + $3,500 progressive amount). But was elated when he learnt that the promotion had been running on the new network for approximately 10 weeks and he was the first winner, making the total progressive amount $35,000 and the total jackpot = $50,000 USD.
AMFAR222 is 31 years old and lives in Russia. He has been playing poker since 2005 and prior to that, he was a serious bridge player, playing in tournaments in both pairs and for teams.
He has been playing at Hansa Poker for approximately 2-3 months before winning at the Jackpot. At that stage, Hansa Poker was still a member of the Tribecca Network. AMFAR22 enjoyed playing at Hansa Poker as he found the competition relatively soft and enjoyed a large range of attractive bonuses that we continue to offer.
AMFAR222 says that he mainly plays Multi Table Tournaments ($5-$20 buy-in), Sit-n-Go’s and a bit of a $1/$2 and $2/$4 limit hold’em. While he has won a number of Multi Table Tournaments in the past and the largest prize he’d ever won was around $1000. So as you can imagine, he was thrilled when he won the sizeable Maui Jackpot.
In relation to winning the five Sit-n-Go’s, he mentioned that he found the competition to be fairly weak and tight. But after winning four in a row, he started to realize how close he was to scoring the massive jackpot and he hoped for a nice easy run in the final sit-n-go. Unfortunately, he sat opposite a loose, aggressive player (Screen name shemus007) and any professional will tell you that this sort of player is always tough to beat, especially if the cards start falling his way.
Overcoming this type of player requires a supreme mixture of skill and discipline and after coming back from having the second largest chip stack, eliminating shemus007 and winning the jackpot, AMFAR222 showed that he has enormous potential in the world of competitive tournament poker. AMFAR22 recalls that the critical moment of the final sit-and-go was a hand where, with $3,742.50 in chips, he went to head to head with shemus007 ($4,837.50 in chips). AMFAR22 held Qs-7s and shemus007 held As-3s and both limped into the pot. Lagopus, a third player holding 7c-4h, simply checked from the big blind. The flop came 2s-4c-8s. Lagopus check, shemus007 bet $400, AMFAR22 called and Legopus folded – a mistake that he would later regret.
The turn came a 7h, giving AMFAR22 the lead, but shemus007 could still hit the lead with an ace or any spade. Again, shemus007 bet $400 and AMFAR22 called. The river was a 7d, giving AMFAR22 trips. shemus007, trying to buy his way out of the pot, bet $400 again. This time, AMFAR22 raised to $1600. At this point, it would appear that shemus007 put AMFAR22 on a missed draw and felt that it was worth calling another $1200 on the chance that AMFAR22 was bluffing. He called and AMFAR22 showed him trip sevens. Incidentally, if lagopus has stayed in the pot, he would have finished with a strong full house and tripled up.
With that hand, AMFAR22 took the lead and never looked back. In the final hand of the tournament, which won him both the tournament and the $50,000 Jackpot, he knocked out two players in one hand when his A-J overran Myllys35 (D)’s Q-4 and lagopus’s K-J when the board finished: J-7-6-6-5.
AMFAR22 says that he intends “invest” his winnings to make even more money. Smart Man! Smart Player! Smart Winner!
Hansa Poker congratulates and salutes AMFAR22 on a fine display of poker skill and on his tournament victory.
